Buyer
Reports To: Purchasing Director
Location: Addison, IL

SUMMARY
To purchase assigned inventory products and to maximize our profitability from those goods, while providing superior customer service at the lowest outgoing cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Purchase assigned stock and non-stock material in an economic and timely fashion to maximize customer service and to follow up through expediting, receipt, payment and close-out of initiated orders.
  • Coordinate with the Purchasing Manager and Product Manager(s) to manage and maintain an assigned inventory investment to within desirable goals, for service levels, over stock, and gross margin return on investment.
  • Perform all tasks related to creating and maintaining assigned vendor files and item records.
  • Participate in various functions that support the Marketing and Materials group, including Marketing & Materials newsletter, various Sales-Purchasing meetings, and physical inventories.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with assigned vendors, and use to the mutual benefit of Marketing and Materials Department and Sales personnel.
  • Constantly represent Brook Electric Supply in a responsible, professional, and ethical manner.
  • Complete in-house and external training programs to maximize understanding of Brook purchasing systems and processes.
  • Participates in and follows all Brook policies, guidelines, and procedures (safety, Anti-Harassment, Ethics, etc).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree or equivalent with a minimum two years in the Purchasing/Inventory Control Field, preferably in electrical distribution.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong math, good analytical and problem-solving skills. Sound verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work with various departments and negotiate professionally with suppliers. Must be organized in order to handle changing priorities, and should have working knowledge of Excel.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Vocational school or college level degree with an emphasis in business, or equivalent experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands. Reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. General vision abilities apply.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typical environments include offices, light industrial. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
