Collections Agent
Reports To: Collections Manager
Location: Addison, Illinois

SUMMARY
The duties of a Collections Specialist include collection calls and/or correspondence in a fast paced goal oriented collections department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides customer service regarding collection issues, process customer refunds, process and review account adjustments, resolve client discrepancies and short payments.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining assigned accounts- Customer calls, account adjustments, small balance write off, customer reconciliations and processing credit memos.
  • Accountable for reducing delinquency for assigned accounts.
  • Perform other assigned tasks and duties necessary to support the Accounts Receivable Department.
  • Enlist the efforts of sales and senior management when necessary to accelerate the collection process.
  • Must communicate & follow up effectively with sales dept regarding customer accounts on a timely basis.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with customers and sales.
  • Weekly and monthly reporting to direct supervisor.
  • High volume phone calls to assigned delinquent customers.
  • Reconcile customer disputes as they pertain to payment of outstanding balances that are due.
  • Internal and External customer interface, travel required.
  • Meet defined department goals and activity metrics.
  • Completes on-going training and other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least five (5) years high volume corporate credit and collection experience.
  • Experience working with electrical distribution or warehousing processes and principles is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Act, the Consumer Credit Collection Act, and state and federal laws applying to collection activities.
  • Knowledge of Illinois Lien laws.
  • Knowledge of Billing and Collections procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, goal oriented.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS/BA in business administration or related major or five years equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 50% ability to travel is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typical environments include offices, light industrial, commercial, and utility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
